Jacoby Ford Explodes Against The Chiefs

Jacoby Ford who entered the season with only 4 catches for 37 yards on the season, exploded in Week 9, leading the Raiders to a comeback victory over the Chiefs 23-20.

The Raider's offense struggled mightily in the first half managing only 54 yards, but the defense was able force a late interception in the end zone and went into half down only 10-0. Ford took the second half kickoff to his left, found a seem, made one move and speed untouched into the end zone bringing the Raiders to within three points. After the Chiefs added a FG to extent the lead to 13-7, Jason Campbell found Ford on 16 yard reception on a drive that ended in a touchdown giving the Raiders a 14-13 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Jason Campbell found Ford on a critical 3rd and 8 for 38 yards down to the Kansas City 8 yard line. After the drive stalled, Sebastian Janikowski added a FG to put the Raiders up 17-13. The Chiefs were able to answer with touchdown on the next possession to retake the lead 20-17. After a Chief drive stalled the Raiders got the ball back on their own 25 yard line with 2:03 remaining. The Raiders moved the ball to the Oakland 43 before Campbell found Ford on a 7 yard completion to move the ball into Kansas City territory with under 40 seconds remaining . After a holding penalty, Campbell threw a dangerous pass over the middle that Ford managed to wrestle away for a couple of defenders for a 29 yard pick-up to set-up Janikowski’s last second game tying FG.

In overtime, Kansas City went three and out on their first possession and after a punt the Raiders took over on their own 38 yard line. On their first play in overtime, Campbell again called Ford’s number who responded with a sliding catch down to the Kansas City 15 yard line setting up Janikowski’s game winning 33 yard FG.

Ford finished with 6 receptions for 148 yards to go along with 4 kick returns for 158 yards and 1 touchdown. Ford became the second rookie in NFL history with at least 140 receiving yards and at least 150 return yards in a single game.

  1. I was watching NFL Sunday Night on NBC, and during the pregame Tony Dungy was gushing all over JF. Even went to far as to say the Raiders have become "mentally tough". Very cool.
