Terry Don Phillips – Thursday Early PM Update

Terry Don Phillips - Wednesday Early PM Update

This is some of the information that we have been hearing regarding Terry Don Phillips’ status as Clemson Athletic Director.

-  Terry Don Phillips is under contract for approximately 18 more months.  The value remaining on the contract is worth an estimated $1 Million.

-  If Clemson were to "fire" Terry Don Phillips prior to the end of his contract then Clemson University would owe him the remainder of the contract similar to buyout that Clemson paid to Tommy Bowden.

-  If Clemson were to "fire" TDP “with cause” then Clemson University is not required to pay the buyout.

-  Alledgedly, Clemson used the fiasco around the Women’s Soccer program along with some other performance issues to throw the "with cause" chip on the table.  See Women's Soccer Fiasco for more information on that story.

-  The official announcement will likely not be until next week

Reading between the lines in my opinion, Clemson used “firing with cause” as a negotiating chip to try and reduce the money owed to Terry Don Phillips for terminating his contract. If Clemson were to “fire with cause” it would likely evolve into a lengthy legal battle (see Mike Leach) that could get ugly. In order to avoid a court battle, the two parties will hammer out a buyout that is less that the $1 Million that Terry Don Phillips is owed under the terms of the contract. Terry Don Phillips will likely official “resign” as opposed to being fired as is usually the case.

  1. Well that's just dumb. It NEEDS to be known that he was fired so he doesn't pollute another school....unless its USuC. Their AD probably gets AD of the year.

  3. I understand the attempt to save money, but just pay the man off and get it over with. We were dumb enough to sign the contract, so lets take our medicine and move on.

  4. "Can't wait for Munson to make another appearance in this one."

Don Munson is busy sucking off William at the moment, but he'll jump in once he cleans up.

  5. Have any of you cowards ever picked up a phone and called the man? I did and we had a long talk. The man bleeds for the unversity and I got full trust in him to get the job done.

He was brung to upgrade the facilitys which he has done. A big emfasis was to improve basketball which he has done. And we all know that Football is the big moneymaker, and all that happened their is a major turnaround after the horribel 90's which I still have nightmears over.

Tommy Bowden turned him around a bit and TDP admited it to me, but no man is perfect. Give Dabo a chance. He and TDP love this schol unlike most of you idots.

  9. I see that AOC is starting to use words like "allegedly" and "in my opinion" in today's garbage spewing. Pretty smart considering everything written in this blog is completely false as well. AOC, your sources are taking you for a wild ride. I find it pretty humorous actually. When all of this has been said and done, I am sure AOC will be more than willing to write a blog admitting they have completely wrong on this issue just as they have been wrong on many other issues in the past.

  11. @Anonymous

I will write a blog admitting that we were wrong if in fact we turn out to be wrong.

Some of the stuff written in yesterdays piece has been confirmed by other media outlets. While a lot of this blog has been posted on other boards as well. I guess everybody could be taken for a wild ride. We will see.

  12. Also, you need to recognize that he used the words "allegedly" and "imo" in reference to specific details surrounding the firing, not in reference to the firing itself.

Please learn to read better so you can stop making a fool of yourself.

  13. If they has cause due to the "Womens Scocer Fiasco", they should have taken action then. It won't work a year later.

  14. How in the hell do you write this blog with a straight face? You use 'handles' and make up have the stuff you write and call it inside information. This site is an embarassment. You have no accountability. Coupled with no credibility this might as well be a donkey porn site...
