Not Sure If TDP Is Serious

In a recent Post and Courier article, Terry Don Phillips was asked about moving the Clemson-South Carolina game to the start of the season.

"That might be a good idea," Phillips said."

Not sure if serious... Pictures, Images and Photos

I hate this idea and hope TDP is not being serious.

Why mess with an established tradition especially an established tradition that has worked out in Clemson's favor for over 50 years?

Who cares if the ACCGC is the next week? This doesn't stop Alabama and Florida from playing a rivalry game the week before the SECGC. It also would mean that Clemson would likely have a pivotal ACC clash the week before the ACCGC, which is still two pivotal games in back-to-back weeks.

Clemson-South Carolina is a rivalry and should be played at the end of the season just like Ohio State-Michigan, Alabama-Auburn, Florida-Florida State and Army-Navy.

I don't see a single positive aspect of this lame idea and can't believe that it would ever be seriously considered by Clemson's Athletic Department.

Share your thoughts on this idea and vote in the poll question on the top right.

  1. TDP just doesn't get it.

  2. It certainly is more important to our season if it is at the end of the year... If we have had a crappy year we can hang our hat on it. If we are having a good year, it can ruin it.

There is no hope of it becoming nationally relevant if moved to the first of the season unless USC and Clemson have multiple years of success to generate some build up.

All that said, I hate that the ACC forced everyone to play the week before the ACCCG. It was much better when the regular season was over prior to Thanksgiving IMO.

  5. This blog was clearly started as a vehicle to oust Terry Don Phillips and Dabo Swinney.

Now that the team is on a winning streak, it's a X's and O's football discussion blog?

Give me a break. You people are pathetic.

  6. So, now Clemson has just been dominated by the Gamecocks. Time to go negative again?

Tommy Bowden beat USC consistently, but never won the ACC championship.

Dabo Swinney's tigers will consistently lose to the Gamecocks. It will be interesting to see how you "champions" react to that.

  7. LOL! Clemson sucks. The Shamecocks just owned you and we owned the Jackets. Clemson is a joke who gets fat on acc turds. I hope some football god lets us play you in the Chickfila so we can beat you like we always have, except the one time you beat us when you were cheating.

    Clemson. Joke.

    acc. Joke.

Idiotic Clemson fans who think you could survive better than vandy in the SEC. Joke.

  9. If the chickens want to move every other game to Thursday night at the State Fair (Big Thursday), I would be OK with that.

Otherwise, not just no, but HELL no.

  10. On the other hand, if we moved rivalry week, who would we play?

The normal rivalry week in the ACC is as follows:

    GT-UGA
    FSU-UF
    Wake-Vandy
    Duke-UNC
    NCST-ECU
    VT-UVA
    Miami-USF (new rivalry)
    BC-UMD

Likewise, who would USC play? The SEC rivalry week looks like this:

    UGA-GT
    UF-FSU
    UT-UK
    Vandy-Wake
    Ole Miss/M-State
    LSU-Ark
    'Bama-Auburn

The only possibility I could see is if they could convince Wake and Vandy to move their games as well, leaving Clemson-Wake (Clemson's traditional season-ender from the Big Thursday Era) and USC-Vandy at the end of the season.
