Clemson's Terry Don Phillips Update

Clemson's Board of Trustees met Thursday and Friday prior to the Wake Forest game in Clemson. According to sources inside the Athletic Department, one of the main topics of discussion was the middling performance of Clemson's entire athletic program under Athletic Director Terry Don Phillips. The BOT's main issues with Phillips were the lack of championships under his watch combined with what was viewed as questionable hiring processes along with a preceived disconnect with the Clemson fan base. Noteably being expressed was the BOT's lack of faith in TDP ability to execute a plan to right the ship. After some debate the BOT made a recommendation to President Barker to make a change at the AD position.

President Barker was reportedly not happy with the recommendation and tried to get the BOT to reconsider their decision. However, the BOT repeatedly explained to Baker that their decision was final.

In situations like this, the BOT's recommendation is not final as the final decision rests in President Barker's hands.

  1. Not even a hint of what the source of this info might be? Just throwing this shit out there to see who bites?

  2. No idea if there is any truth to this but since it ultimately comes down to Barker making the change we still might not be rid of the problems in the AD.

  3. Patiently waiting for the next loss? Hang in there AOC!

  4. Tripp,
Do you ask for Cris, Ryan, or Larry's source every time they write something? What about CNN? Fox News? Your local news? Do they tell you all their sources? No. Yet you believe them. I am in no way affiliated with the AOC (you probably wont believe that because I dont have a source) but its hard to prove their track record inaccurate. Most of what they have said has been confirmed by TI's own authors. The problem is that if a reporter or anyone else for that matter was to give up their source there would be no more inside information given. Use your head a little Tripp.

  5. Yeah they just throw shit out there. What have they said thus far that has been wrong? Please tell me and when you finish I'll go back and tell you all the things they got right. I know who will look like an uneducated ass, and it won't be me.

And before you say something about their 'agenda', they do have one. To have Clemson be led by an innovative and hungry administration.

  6. AOC- I enjoy your site and know that you have a source within administration or, multiple sources. We don't need to know who they are. I have a couple of these although I have not tapped into them much this year. Whenever you post this information, some lurkers will demand a source, accuse you of not being a fan, etc. When you end up being correct, they are nowhere to be found. You are doing everyone a favor by sharing information. If visitors don't like the content or the message, they should stop reading. If they don't trust your content as being true, they should quit reading. Ridiculous.

  7. we must not give up the push to change AD leadership just because we have won two games and hopefully run the table -- a change is a must for long term success !!!

  8. You folks sure do have different a way of looking at things.

Frankly, based on the BOT's track record, maybe we should be against anything they recommend. :) After all, they are the ones that cause all of the damage in the first place with their "recommendations".

  9. The AOC is 100% accurate on this one. As well, Billy D appears to be out the door- know soon.

  10. Just talked to a member of the BOT and he said this is false. Total exaggeration. They did talk about TDP, but the topic had nothing to do with his future. It was more budget related

  11. I will trust the AOC sources over you bud. Terry Don is in hot water.

  12. Spoke with one of the two BOT members that I know and said that this a complete exaggeration and has no merit. I will talk to the other to confirm but just another in a long line of major exaggerations by this group, including the "fight" between Dabo and Napier and constant inferences that Dabo can't handle the job.

If this information is accurate, backup what the hell you are saying by naming the source.

  14. I spoke to a BOT Member prior to the Miami game who hinted at the BOT taking a similar stance.

Also talked to a person that works for the AD that was hearing that the BOT had some strong words for TDP as well.

Now this was before the Miami game, so the BOT's stance might have softened after that big win.

  15. Let's hope it's the truth - in fact, let's hope that the focus was as much on Barker as Phillips - plus the long ugly line of Administrators that are nothing more than a bunch of moochers off the State of South Carolina, Clemson Graduates, Iptay members and friends of our University.

Look at the last issue of tigertownobserver.com - more totally dastardly efforts by the BOT, Barker's Tax Paid Lawyers in trying to quiet the legitimate concerns of Mr. Eugene Troutman - and hide the ugly truth that are being hidden under our beginning to be "tarnished Orange paw"/

  16. I demand sources from the anonymous commentors!

  17. My father happens to be on the BOT and though they do bump heads with Barker, I asked him about this and he confirmed this blog post was inaccurate. Nothing was discussed that would hint at TDP being in any trouble with the board. He also told me that after the Miami win, it looks like the fruit of TDP's efforts are starting to ripen. It is pretty obvious to me now that the AOC has some poor sources, or they are just making stuff up.

  18. how about demanding sources from the AOC. who cares what the commentors are saying.

  19. While I would love to see Billy D walking out the door I hope Coastal is not dumb enough to hire him.

Yeah right...Was your father also the star of Weekend at Bernie's ?

  21. If you people don't like what's being written here, don't read it! And for all you who constantly demand the stupid, let me clue you in:

THE AOC IS NOT GOING TO GIVE UP ITS SOURCES TO A BUNCH OF DOUCHEBAGS LIKE YOU! STFU AND GET OVER IT! THEY'RE NOT GOING TO DO IT, AND THEY NEVER WILL!

You snot-bubbled mouth-breathers who indignantly demand the ridiculous need to be castrated. Because it's blithering idiots like you who give Southerners a bad name. Grow a brain.

  22. Why would anyone admit to their Father being on this bunch of holier than thou do nothings called the BOT????????????

That's almost as bad as admitting to be Barker's Son, Dori Helms offspring or, God Forbid - any relationship at all with the General Counsel of Clemson University.

  23. While the ultimate decision resides with Barker, he has to make decisions knowing that he serves at the pleasure of the BOT. Doubt he is willing to fall on the sword for TDP.

  24. I rake the leaves of two people on the BOT.

Both of them said the story was accurate and I printed out a copy and showed it to them.

  25. Barker's probably under fire for more than the AD. He's running a university that 1) is allegedly manipulating various metrics in order to rise up the rankings, and 2) has the Eugene Trout scandal to boot. Forget the athletic department for a moment, the university has come under fire in recent months for various low-brow actions.

  26. To the absolute brain-dead moron saying that NBC and CNN don't give up sources, there is one big difference, though your IQ is too low to see it. When respected journalists like Wolf Blitzer, or Morley Safer quote anonymous sources, it's THEIR rep on the line.

Now, stay with me if you can...the BIG DIFFERENCE in this instance is that we have an anonymous blogger quoting anonymous sources. Still there?

On televsion, or in the newspaper, or from any credible news source, the person citing the source is putting his/her reputation on the line. The only thing this "blog" has put on the line is the $5.95 it pays each month to blogspot. There are no names attached to it, so no one's reputation/credibility is at stake.

Be careful what you believe of items posted on the internet.

  27. Why aint we focusing on the big wins Dab just brung to the fateful instead of worring about the men in the offices? WHO CAres??? All i ever cared about is winning the games and thats why I give. I have put kids through school and sent checks on time to sports and for school. I dont care who cashes the checks but I do care about the product I'm seeing on Saturday. The women that write this piece of shit can go strait to hell for all i care.

Uhhhh, then he would no longer have a source.

  29. I say we just take matters into our own hands. I support the AOC and I think we should just confront TDP. If we can't get an appointment, then we can catch him on the way to his car. We should hold a real protest. I think we could advertise it on campus and have hundreds of people show up outside his office, or outside of the next BOT meeting. I think we can bring down this corrupt Clemson leadership and expose them. This blog is not enough. We need to take action. Who is with me on this? Maybe it could make the paper and then people will finally start paying attention.

Actually, we she all meet up during homecoming. I think we could have a huge gathering of people and hand out flyers with all the stuff that is wrong with the Clemson leadership. We have the power to make a difference. Who is with me?

  30. i can only hope that tdp is on his way out.

maybe the bot have finally awakened - i wonder what took them so long?

our lack of acc championships is plain embarrassing along with tdp's $4.5M bowden mistake.

who loses $4.5M outside of wall street and keeps their job? - only tdp evidently..

  31. don't shoot the messenger just because you don't like the message. our lack of acc championships speaks VOLUMES for who is sitting at the ad's office desk and he is a loser!

  32. Looks like this blog has been called out by a reporter for the P/C. He states the meeting is public record so someone is going to be right and someone is going to have some egg for a beard. Interesting stuff.

  33. The AOC,

    They are ALL whINe.

  34. My father is on the BOT, and he confirmed that this story is true. However, Clemson's administration is highly politicized and if Clemson does well it will be hard to actually make a change. Even if he is doing a poor job, there are just too many sheep out there who would have a problem with a positive change.

Again, this is all per my father, who is on the BOT.

  35. My mother, who is your mother and the wife of the BOT member you mention, wants me to tell you, you are adopted.
