Terry Don Phillips - Wednesday Early PM Update

Terry Don Phillips - Thursday Early PM Update

Here is what The Avenue of Champions has been able to gather from various sources inside and outside the Athletic Department on the developing situation with Terry Don Phillips.

-  The Clemson Board of Trustees (BOT) has taken a stronger stance against Terry Don Phillips and the overall performance of the Clemson Athletic Department since around the midway point of this football season.

-  James Barker conducted interviews with Athletic Department employees in regards to Terry Don Phillips' performance as Athletic Director and the overall work enviroment inside the AD during the month of November.  The results of these interviews were far from glowing.

-  The BOT recommended that James Barker fire Terry Don Phillips in the wake of the loss to USC

-  James Barker followed through on the request from the BOT

-  Terry Don Phillips responded by lawyering up for a meeting that is taking place today

-  Terry Don Phillips is not expected to walk away from this meeting as Athletic Director of Clemson University although TDP could stay around for the remainder of the year (12/31/10)

-  Billy D'Andrea expected to be the AD in the interim

  1. Clemson needs new blood, not leftover's from a failed staff. Don't keep Billy D'Andre as AD, go and hire someone outside the program with an impressive resume. Dwight Clark would be a great pick IMO

  2. First, TDP was new blood.

Second, the guy that hired him will hire the next one.

Am I happy he is gone, sure. Am I optimistic anything will change? No.

  3. This would only be step one. We need to go outside the program and bring in a proven professional. The Clemson fan base needs a vocal leader and the athletics department needs a positive, strong director. Time to prove to us that Clemson MEANS BUSINESS!

  4. D'Andre is no improvement.

Hope he doesn't manage the Athletic Dept like his wife did Pickens Co. schools and Anderson District 4.

  5. I just had a wet fart. Gotta go.

  6. Say whaaaaaaa? You mean i had to actually search for good quality coaches. This is tha pits. First I have to stop my afternoon naps and now this.

  7. well if true it is a good first step. unless the bot approves of the new ad hire we will be stuck with another presidential turd for an ad.

  8. As usual, completely false information from AOC. Hopefully people begin to to realize that the bogus spewed on this site is a complete waste of time and does nothing but damage everyone involved with the university. Is everyone happy with a 6-6 season? Of course not, but to print slanderous and libel information about an Athletic Director whose department reached the Final Four in baseball last year, gone to 3 straight NCAA basketball tournaments, and been eligible for 11 straight bowl games is over the top. Name me another school that can list these accomplishments. Not to mention no NCAA sanctions in any sport under his tenure. Have we won enough Championships? Not yet but give Dabo and Brownell time to prove what they can do and then bring down judgement on TDP. Until then, AOC I would be very careful with the inaccurate information you are providing on here.

  9. give me a break with the 11 straight bowl games Mrs. Phillips. 76 freaking teams out of 116 will go bowling this year. SEVENTY FREAKING SIX. GOING TO BOWL SHOULDN"T BE A DAMN STANDARD. And another thing....that guy who took us to the tournament 3 times was ran off by TDP

    You either
    1. Work in the athletic dept
    2. Related to Terry

  10. Tater did you have a wet fart.

  11. Please make a legitimate national search for his replacement. Look for someone interested in making all of our sports competitive while at the same time being able to reach out to the masses and raise money for the advancement of all facilities.

The Ohio State University does a pretty good job of it...with a lot more sports than Clemson too. I'm just saying - there's one.

  14. Billy D is a douche bag and really should not be invilved with CU athletics

    ReplyDelete
  15. I am not real sure why people have something against Billy D? Did he point out the truth to you and hurt your feelings?

I hope I have the opportunity to read why people have issues with the man. I think he did a great job running Vickery Hall and he has been the guy raising all the money for the facility improvements at Clemson.

  16. well some people would complain if they were being hung with a new rope. as far as i am concerned Billy D would be a great one to step in until a permanant replacement could be found, and I agree, Dwight Clark would be a perfect fit.

I can't believe Clemson actually pays you to do this, Don Munson. It's kind of hard to name another school that has done the things you listed since only Clemson, South Carolina, UCLA and TCU would qualify. Is that your argument? That we have achieved more than South Carolina, UCLA and TCU?

Terry Don has been fired and my guess is that you will be receiving your walking papers very soon. Make no mistake about it, loser.

  18. The problem that people have with Billy D is that he would be an unqualified holdover from the previous failed administration. Sound familiar?

No, but they did win the baseball national champioship,,,,,,,,,,,beating clemson twice on the way to the top.

Oh, and before I forget, they also waxed the tater's rear ends last year and this year.

  25. To anonymous at 2:47,

Is that you TDP? If it is shouldn't you be packing up your office?

    ReplyDelete
  26. What's all the fuss about? It's just Clemson. Who really cares?

    ReplyDelete
  27. "So South Carolina made the NCAA basketball tourney the last 3 years? Who knew."

No you nitwit, but the 3 qualifications you named limit the field to the 4 teams that made the baseball final 4. Figure out what I'm saying yourself, b/c I'm not explaining it any further.

P.S. If you include your Bi-Lo bonus card number in your email they'll count it twice...pro tip.

  33. Aint gonna make a damn bit of difference if Jim Barker is still running the university. Has anybody on here ever even read that dime store magazine he has us ranked in?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Anonymous @ 2:07 is the straight shooter. All of what has been represented by AOC regarding this matter is false. He hasn't been fired and will not be fired.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It doesn't matter who they hire at this point. USC has all of the momentum right now and they have kicked our asses in just about every sport this year including at the college world series. Lets face if folks the tides have changed and it looks like USC is going to dominate us for a good while now. We can only hope that something drastic happens with the NCAA and they find that USC broke allot of rules or something. I never thought I would say that I miss Tommy Bowden but I really do.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I guess somebody(TDP) had to be made the scape goat for "a very disappointing season"(Swinney's words) and since you really can't fire Dabo after only his second year, and perhaps in some small part because Pres.Barker won't lower his academic standards so Dabo can recriut 'athletes',and not just 'Student athletes' somebody had to go.
Of course, nothing is finalized yet.The BOT could vote to bring back Danny Ford to run the whole University!

    ReplyDelete
  37. We must admit to ourselves that USC now has the momentum and will dominate us in all major sports, especially football. Dabo was an unwise hire and TDP should be replaced, which isn't going to happen. I just wish we didn't have to play the Gamecocks every year!

  40. Please, let us assume positive intent. Dr. Phillips did the best he knew how to do. The fact that it was not what Clemson needed is unfortunate. He is a good person. While I disagree with many of his decisions, I wish him only the best.

  41. Clemson is more horible than a soft wet turd.

  42. Exactly what kinda asshattery is going on all up in this here corner of the blogosphere?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Maybe another secret meeting like this is in the works. You people deserve what you are getting. You hired a salesman and that fool Dabo hoodwinked you.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Why not hire Danny Ford for AD? Maybe, he could find a good football coach that could string together three 10 win seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Good work TaterNation!!!!

The Jiffy Lube Bowl has had to call YOUR AD and ask him to call off the dogs.

Outstanding effort. If only KP had your resolve....

  46. It was very interesting when they ran off Bowden but kept his inexperienced underlings. Money? What other reason could there be?
