We along with many other beat writers, blogs and others in and around Clemson expected that Terry Don Phillips was not going to survive as Clemson's Athletic Director, but all that changed on Friday when Terry Don Phillips along with his lawyers meet with Jim Barker.
What caused the change of tune it up for speculation. A number of rumors tune have surfaced since after the meeting including the following:
- Jim Barker didn't want to payout the remainder of Terry Don Phillip's contract valued at roughly $1.1 Million over the next 32 months.
- Terry Don Phillip's threatened a lawsuit that would be played out in public where Phillips' defense would be to shift blame back onto Barker for pushing or signing off on a lot of the issues that Phillip's is now catching heat on.
- It was just a normal job evaluation between Barker, Phillips and his lawyers
Regardless of the reason for sticking with Phillips, it is crystal clear that the leadership at Clemson University doesn't care what the fans think no matter how many letters, emails and calls they receive expressing their displeasure with the current state of the athletic department. They know that the fans will simply continue to hand over their money to IPTAY year after year regardless of the results of the field.
I am not going to tell people how to spend their dollars, but I do encourage people to take a stand whether that be by withholding money from IPTAY, withholding money from the Clemson Fund, boycotting products from BOT's companies, joining "Fire Terry Don Phillips" Facebook group, joining a grassroots protest or any other way of expressing your displeasure.
I am stunned at the news. I have and will continue to send letters to all the BOT members expressing my displeasure with their performance and support of Jim Barker. I would also like to get a list of the companies they represent in order to encourage a boycott. Does anyone have access to one? If so; please get it out there for all to see. I as well will also cease to support IPTAY and the Loyalty Fund; making sure both organizations clearly understand the reasons for my actions.

ReplyDeleteIf they wanted Phillips gone, he'd be gone. Barker could change TDP's duties to be nearly nothing and move his office to a janitor's closet and humiliate TDP to the point where TDP would be willing to negotiate a reasonable "retirement".
ReplyDeletethey got my last cent a few years back during the tommy bowden debacle. it was after the vt game 41-23 (31-8 half) that I saw the light.
ReplyDeleteNow today 3 years later the only thing I am happy about is the money I DID NOT waste throwing down that rat hole known as Clemson Athletics Department/IPTAY.
Till the leadership changes and real commitment to winning emerges I sit and watch and advocate change.
