"Road Rock" Cheapens Clemson’s Greatest Tradition

The Greenville News ran an article today about Scott Patterson of Greer who presented Dabo Swinney with a mounted rock  from Death Valley. Swinney plans on taking the new rock on the road to away games and having it become a “road rock” to inspire the player’s prior to the game. I think Patterson presenting the rock to Swinney is a cool gesture, but I disagree with taking it on the road as a “road rock.” Clemson players rubbing Howard’s Rock and running down the hill has been around since 1967 and is one of the best traditions in College Football and bringing this new rock on the road only cheapens a great tradition. In most cases history is better left alone and this is one of those cases

  1. Im glad someone is pointing this out, I like Dabo but the more he changes and messes with tradition the more I grow to dislike him.

Why would you even think to do this when you already have the greatest entrance that college football has, instead you want to make a mockery of it and cheapen it.

  2. I don't think it cheapens it at all. It's not like they're digging up THE ROCK and taking it with them. Now, if they take a collapsible hill with them on the road then it'll be too far. haha

I will say this though, I hope he's not going to stand in front of the team on the opposing teams field and have them run by him. Hopefully it's something that'll be done in the locker room. If so, it's fine by me.

  3. I guess the AOC only wants our players to give 110% for home games.

You guys seriously need to quit thinking you are so important.

  5. This is another great write-up by The Avenue of Champions. Who the hell is Scott Patterson anyway? And why is some rock he brought to the head coach now going to be interjected into the team's road ritual? Dabo is 5-6 away from Death Valley. I'd think there would need to be other things under consideration first before worrying about starting a new tradition. And I'm sure TDV signed off on this, right? Oh wait a minute, TDV doesn't bother to go to away games, so why would he care. He's too busy eating up a jar of apple sauce a day.
